Laser Cutting Legos >:)
I wanted to see if I could make Legos! Which I super quickly learned is absolutely not easy or maybe even not possible with the laser cutters we have as micro imprecisions were bound to happen. But I still thought I’d go for it and try to make enough pieces to replicate this Duplo Vintage duck thing
So starting off I used some left over 1/8” wood that I’d used for a PComp project with a partner who knew the laser cutters. This would require a few layers of wood to create the “Brick” shape, as reflected in my initial sketch.
So there were some sizable holes to maneuver my illustrator file around but that part was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be!
Next was printing, which went smoothly. Except as you can see maybe I DIDN’T place my new drawings on the wood correctly. Haha. I did it a couple times.
Honestly things went as planned. I got my bits, I used some wood glue, I clamped them together and we were ready to go for the final step..
Ah yes the final step. The test in my human precision at this scale.
Yeah, here’s my method. I put the nubbins in the holes they would fit into later and added the glue, then pressed another lego down and they would usually all come right up. It seems to work.
Except they don’t really fit into eachother well. So I just have some cute wooden individual legos and some that kinda fit..
