MOLD DESIGN
This week was a challenge for me. The holiday on Monday closed down our shop and really squeezed away my time to work on fabrication projects for multiple classes. That being said, I am proud of my efficiency with the silicone! I did not use any instructions or references, and correctly mixed, degassed, and poured my silicone. It does get me excited for the potential of my own silicone mold projects post this course.
My mold itself however... really reflects the time I had.
I wanted to see what making a simple square with a pocket in the center would be like. I haphazardly cut some of the cloth to wrap around a thin prism of cardboard that was degassed first and then placed in the whole mold, of which is also cardboard assembled and sealed with hot glue. I poured into the mold over the degassed prism with silicone, and then degassed again. The final layer was pressing that top section of cardboard down to keep the mold both clean, compressed, and hopefully shape it.
If all goes to plan I should have a little pouch if you will, that may not have an opening in it but a simple stab stab stab should do the trick. haha.
DAY 2
A simple stab stab stab is not going to fix this. Upon seeing the outcome, I’m not entirely sure how I thought it would work.
Not only was my personal box rustled through, some components taken(????) and my mold thrown off level, even if it had been left alone, I don’t think I could have possible removed my core. I think I need to rewire my brain to think about opening ends for molds so that things can be removed. I wanted to do an idea without taking any of the concepts from the presentation but today? that didn’t work out.
It does feel nice. And I still like Silicone. w
