VI. MIDTERM TIME

THE CNC’S BROKE! But I got my cuts done just in time :) Thank golly because I decided to make my midterm a birthday gift for my friend this weekend. A simple frame with some whimsical decoration. It may not actually be designed to hold a picture but rather a doll, strung up from the sides. Unsure at this point, will update the blog when I come to a conclusion.

I. GETTIN STARTED

This is my file after some measurements. The plan is to make holes in long horizontal parts of the frame and then inserts in the shorter vertical sides. They would both need pockets about halfway through the depth of the plywood to fit in. Seems... good? The pocket fix should be good.

I got everything squared away just to find that the CNC wasn’t finding my files? Hm. Well a quick restart should fix that. And it did! So time to cut??

Unfortunately I discovered my leadins were BARELY out of the work area and so I got some absurd weirdness that screwed EVERYTHING UP! Okay fine. I’ll move it and cut it all again.

II. JOINERY MODE

Unfortunately not documented because I was hungry and FRANTIC but I see that my shape must not have been perfectly symmetrical. So when it was flipped, reflected, put upsidedown and around for all the parts of my frame, some corners didn’t line up exactly..
But that’s okay. The corners that lined up I am very satisfied with and the others just needed some dremel action and a hard mallet hit.

Can’t lie I’m pretty happy with it. It’s very sturdy.

III. DECORATE :3

The plan, use my new cheapo wood burning pen to draw attention away from the mistakes or rather use them to my advantage. sketched in procreate.!

YAY!
